About
L.A. Dierker is a composer, sound artist, and filmmaker, whose works explore and bring awareness to the patterns and rhythms of everyday life.
Her music has been performed at venues in New York City, Philadelphia, Vermont, and New Hampshire. Most recently, Dierker’s compositions have included The Uplands, premiered by the Keene High School String Orchestra under the directorship of Amanda Paul; Harrisville Soundscape, commissioned by Historic Harrisville Inc.; and Solace, A Bagatelle for Woodwind Quartet, with Fixed Media, shown at the Thorne-Sagendorph Art Gallery, Keene State College.
Dierker’s career in music began at Keene State College, Keene, New Hampshire, where she earned a Bachelor of Music summa cum laude in Music Education, Instrumental Music. She taught and performed in the area for several years before undertaking graduate studies in the studio of clarinetist Jonathan Cohler at the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, Massachusetts. While at Longy, she studied composition and graduated, earning a Master of Music in Composition with distinction.
Building on her work at Longy, especially composition of electroacoustic soundscapes, Dierker began to produce short videos to accompany her music and soundscapes. This led her to enroll at the Vermont College of Fine Arts, where she earned a Master of Fine Arts in Composition with a concentration in Scoring for Media.
Dierker spent an additional post graduate semester at VCFA focusing on film under the mentorship of film producer and composer Don DiNicola. Artistic Residencies include the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and Keene State College. In addition to Don DiNicola, Dierker has studied with Ted Mann, Paul Brust, Neal Farwell, Rick Baitz, and John Mallia.
